Aloha, my name is Carl Dionne. I have been employed as an IT Specialist for the University of Hawaii at Hilo’s Computer Science Department since September of 2000. After I started my brother Normand (also a Unit 08 member) immediately got me involved with HGEA. Come to a meeting "Norm said", and so I did, and I haven’t looked back since. Kind of like the Hotel California Syndrome J .

I am a graduate of the University of Hawaii at Hilo’s Computer Science Department and have also attended UH Manoa in the past. After I graduated UH Hilo in 1994, I worked for PDC Systems in Honolulu for 5 years. I met many folks at UH while working at PDC Systems; providing warranty service on the computers purchased from PDCS. After PDC Systems I spent a year working on Johnston Atoll for Kalama Services as a Network administrator for the U.S. Army’s computer network. Upon hearing of the vacancy of my current position at UH Hilo, I applied and was able to come home to Hilo.

Working at UH and volunteering my time for HGEA has been very rewarding. Two areas in which I am really pleased are my time as HID PAC Chair, and the time I got to serve on the Unit 08 board/Unit 08 negotiating team. PAC is on of the most important activities we do as HGEA members, and I am proud of the accomplishments of the HID and statewide HGEA political action programs. Serving as a unit chair, attending Unit 08 board meetings, being a part of the Unit 08 negotiating team, and attending arbitration hearings was a great learning experience for me and I was able to get to know many fellow APT’ers in the process.

Why I am running?

I am running for Unit 08 Director because our unit needs a strong advocate for bargaining unit issues on the HGEA Board of Directors. Also, I would work in cooperation with board members on a variety of issues, including increasing membership involvement, and enhancing HGEA’s role in our communities.

What are my goals?

My goals as Unit 08 Director would be to effectively represent Unit 08 on the HGEA Board of Directors, promote teamwork and harmony between the membership and staff in accomplishing HGEA’s mission, and work to preserving the rights and benefits of all members.

In the end I ask all of you for your support and vote in this board election. Please consider me when you vote. Most importantly, who ever your choice is for Unit 08 board of Director, please participate by casting your vote. HGEA can only accomplish things with membership involvement such as yours.
